What are we DOING?

You;d think a saint had died….instead, it’s a singer. Michael Jackeson was very talented—no question about it. However, he also bought off parents who were pressing charges of pedophilia against their own children. This is a fascinating window into our society, isn’t it? This man was warped by his childhood, by the adults who "managed" him and his talent. He created a body, an image and a mystique. Yes, he was talented and yes, he gave to charity and yes, he UNDOUBTEDLY molested children. Watch and see how he’s remembered.

Tawnia, to answer your qoute concerning what I do to help.Unfortunately I do not have millions to give away. But what little time I do have I volunteer at a Pit Bull rescue and at least once a year at an AIDS clinic.I do it because it needs to be done. Not for other reasons.i don’t have millions and I take away from my family to do these things. That is the sacrifice that PAm is talking about.[PP]And I made respectful comments before all this mess. You decided it was necessary to drag me into what ever disagreement you were having with Pam,because I agreed with some of what she was saying.[PP]People are not going to see things the same way that you do neither will they say things that you like,so you should just deal with it.Instead of picking on people.[PP]And Pam has got to be one of the classiest ladies here. And I disagree with her on much.Namaste and peace!

Jessica

Pam stay classy:) That was beautiful.[PP]Harry great comment.[PP]Tawnia, Harry’s comment just about matches what others were saying.Make up your mind on where you stand.

Tawnia

Harry Thanks for your input. It is possible to have a different opinion about it and be respectful:) I appreciate that.

The whole thing was absolutly the biggest waste of time on television I’d ever suffered through today. Where I work there are a battery of televisions in the cafeteria. Usually depending on what the gourmet chef has planned for lunch, the cafeteria is packed: not today. Besides myself and one of my collegues, there were ten people in the place. Everyone else either went out for lunch or ordered their lunch to go — back to their offices or cubes. I was in and out during the late morning and afternoon with my work and the commentators were droning on to the point I was getting annoyed to say the least. And like Tawnia, I grew up with MJ when he and sister Janet were just kids themselves — I lost track of him over the years being in the Army and mostly overseas — I wasn’t aware he was still in business until the legal mess he created for himself started. And yes, I am not a MJ fan by any stretch of the imagination. # # # hed

Tawnia, it seems as if you and David are taking this personally, so I'm done with it...anything else will only hurt your feelings more.

You have been very disrespectful in the way you state your opinions. I could care less if you don’t like his music, or if you can’t see how he changed the world from your narrow perspective. I just ask that you remember he is someones son, brother, and father. Keep the rude comments you have about him to yourself. Nobody wants to see your hate. Bono and Sting are amazing people and great musicians, but they are still alive. Mozart is a GENIUS, I agree , but his life was also jaded, and he was an outcast in his own time, much like Michael. Elvis, Janis Joplin, Curt Cobain, Jimmy Hendrix, Mozart, and Micheal Jackson are all musical geniuses, that died before their time was up, they all could have done more, and that is why it is a tragedy. That is why people cry, because they are great at what they do, they are originals, and NEVER will there be anyone else like them! I take it personally because it is personal! Music has changed my life, I am sorry you can’t understand that.

I’m watching the phenomenon that is the MJ memorial service. May he RIP and prayers for his family, esp his children. Pam - I think people have chosen to focus on his legacy rather than the controversy and I think it is quite a fascinating look into our society for so many to be able to do that. Now if you are truly done with this topic (as you have said many times), turn off your tv.

Pam

This reflects my thoughts better than anything else. I cut and pasted it—so, if THAT offends you, you’re forwarned. "While the focus today, tomorrow and for the next God-knows-how-many-days will be the death of a pop culture icon; while many will mourn, wail and quite literally make fools of themselves over it and while many will speak endlessly about it, allow me, if only for a20moment, to remind us all that others have died this month; others whose lives were cut short; others who leave behind loved ones and whose families will dearly miss them; families who’ll suffer with much more dignity and honor than we’ll be exposed to on the tube in the coming days. Yes… it’s true… we’ve suffered a great loss… but forgive me while I tell you that I’m not talking about the king of pop music. These American military members died in Iraq this month: Sergeant Justin J. Duffy Specialist Christopher M. Kurth Specialist Charles D. Parrish Lance Corporal Robert D. Ulmer Staff Sergeant Edmond L. Lo Sergeant Joshua W. Soto Captain Kafele H. Sims Specialist Chancell or A. Keesling And these members of our U.S. Armed Forces died in Afghanistan this month: Sergeant Jones, Ricky D. Specialist Munguia Rivas, Rodrigo A. Command Master Chief Petty Officer Garber, Jeffrey J. 1st Sergeant Blair, John D. Sergeant Smith, Paul G. Staff Sergeant Melton, Joshua Sergeant 1st Class Dupont, Kevin A. Specialist O’Neill, Jonathan C. Chief Warrant Officer Richardson Jr., Ricky L. Specialist Silva, Eduardo S. Lance Corporal Whittle, Joshua R. Major Barnes, Rocco M. Major Jenrette, Kevin M. Staff Sergeant Beale, John C. Specialist Jordan, Jeffrey W. Specialist Griemel, Jarrett P. Specialist Hernandez I, Roberto A. Sergeant Obakrairur, Jasper K. Staff Sergeant Hall, Jeffrey A. Private 1st Class Ogden, Matthew D. Private 1st Class Wilson, Matthew W. Let’s remember and honor this day those whose deaths are truly impacting." A HERO isn’t someone who does something unusual in the pop music field. A HERO is someone who is terrified and still does the appropriate act, often losing their own life in the process of serving a thing they love more than self. These people were heros, even if we never know their names.

Pam

Tawnia, being a successful entertainer hardly qualifies as changing the world. It might change the nature of pop music but it doesn’t have any affect on those who aren’t involved in that field. Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Bach—they changed the face of music and still have an audience hundreds of years later. PERHAPS Michael Jackson will, too. I tend to doubt it. Yes, he gave to charity—so do Sting, Bono, Bill Gates and countless foundations who give millions every year. This has nothing to do with you or me or anyone else who’s disappointed by the MINDLESS HYSTERIA and CONSTANT MEDIA OVERLOAD about a deeply weird, disturbed and seriously flawed individual. Now, Tawnia, it seems as if you and David are taking this personally, so I’m done with it…anything else will only hurt your feelings more.

Tawnia

Selling 750 million albums, winning 15 Grammy’s, having the #1 selling album of all time, changing the face of music, and helping countless, sure these are just SMALL achievements to people of your stature, and success. So what have you two done that has changed the world?
