We all know that pregnant women “glow” and are “beautiful,” but the truth is that many women feel less than attractive and it shows in their sex life. Let’s face it, it’s not easy to be intimate and sexy when you’re feeling more like a beached whale than a supermodel.
And then there’s the man and HIS whole set of issues—the biggest one being the fear of hurting the baby. Not to mention (and it’s totally understandable) that for most men, sex during pregnancy can often be strange and uncomfortable.
So needless to say, sexual relations are often strained during pregnancy and, if this is happening to you, don’t worry—it’s completely normal!
However, it’s extremely important that you don’t settle into a bad pattern before you’ve even had your baby. Having a newborn can place just as much stress (if not more) on a relationship than pregnancy does—so do your best to get your “house” in order now.
To get you started, here are five tips to keep that spark:
1. Take care of yourself—do a daily moisturizing routine to keep your skin soft (and stretch-mark free), get a pedicure, de-hair (whatever works for you!).
2. Invest in some sexy clothing—even though you’ve got a lot of other things on your mind right now, take an hour or two to go shopping and buy some lingerie that you feel sexy in (yes, you WILL find it, they DO make that kind of stuff for pregnant women).
3. Put effort into your appearance—style your hair, put a little bit of makeup on, and lay off the frumpy, baggy clothing. (I know this sounds ridiculously skin deep and it is, but hey, sometimes relationships take work, right?)
4. Believe you are sexy—if you walk around feeling fat and unattractive (and that includes all of the self-talk in your head!), it makes it just that much harder to be intimate. Walk around feeling sexy, and you’ll not only feel better but you’ll notice that he starts to see you as sexy, too—I promise!
5. Go out for date night—this worked very well for me! Once a week if you can, go out (even for an hour if you can’t get the entire evening off) and just spend time together.
Pregnancy is only nine months—it’s a great time in your life (morning sickness aside!), so enjoy it and have fun with it as best you can.
Have a sexy weekend! And make sure to give the father-to-be an extra BIG HUG and KISS for Father’s Day!
